The Louvre Café in Prague was first opened on the first floor of a house on Národní třída in 1902. Among its regular guests were writers Karel Čapek, Franz Kafka, and Franz Werfel, legendary Czech actor Eduard Vojan or Albert Einstein.
Café Louvre was destroyed after the Communists putsch in 1948, a warehouse was created in this place and instead of the flavor of coffee and desserts, there was just a mess and dirt.
On November 17, 1989, it was direct in this part of Národní třída where the Czech police brutally beat up Czech students and other participators of the demonstration.
Café Louvre was restored here in 1992, including the famous billiard hall.
