The Strahov Monastery (founded in 1143) is one of the most important architectural monuments in the Czech Republic and its Strahov Library is one of the most valuable historical libraries in Europe. It holds over 200,000 books, of which over 3,000 manuscripts and 1,500 “in cunabulis”, i.e. books printed from the beginning of book printing to the end of the 15th century. (The first print was a Bible printed by the inventor of book printing, Johannes Gutenberg, in 1452.)
